   GAIRSAIN FUTURE CAPITAL OF UTTARAKHAND         

                            

Gairsain ( गैरसैण) is a village in central Uttarakhand, which is being mooted as the state's future capital. The site was chosen in 1994 by the supporters of the Uttarakhand separate state movement due to its central location close to the border of the Garhwali and Kumoan regions. The provisional capital of Uttarakhand has been Dehradun, the largest city in the region, since the state's inception in 2000.The capital of this hill state has to be in the hills and Gairsain is situated almost at the geographical centre of the state and at the border of two Divisions that is Garhwal and Kumaon Divisions as well.Most of the people of the state has opined for locating the capital at Gairsain area as recorded by the present Ayog and clearly mentioned in Kaushik Comm. report earlier.
